Olivier Proulx scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Arizona Sundogs picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (2-1 SO) win over the Dayton Gems.The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Dayton got a shootout goal from Nick Schneider. Arizona also got a shootout goal from Craig Macdonald.
The Sundogs saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Arizona made the score 3-1 on a goal by Macdonald at 3:57 in the third period. The Gems evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Brandon Naurato at 17:33 in the third period.
The Sundogs were led by Proulx, who had one goal. Proulx scored 10:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Arizona. Jean-Philipp Chabot provided the assist.
Arizona stifled Dayton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 41 shots on target during the contest, the Sundogs exceeded the 30.1 shots they average per game this year.
Arizona was led by Proulx, who racked up one goal. Corey Toy also scored for Arizona. Other players who recorded assists for Arizona were Kevin Petovello, who had two and Kyle Hood and Samson Mahbod, who contributed one a piece.
The Gems' offense rang up 33 shots on the Sundogs' net.
Dayton was helped by Robin Richards, who registered one goal. Richards scored 2:19 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Dustin DeGagne assisted on the tally. Dayton additionally got points from Kyle Bochek, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Dayton received assists from Tim Hartung, David Nimmo, and Matt Baxter, who each chipped in one.
Scott Reid recorded 30 saves for Arizona. The Sundogs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Larry Sterling made 37 saves for the Gems on 40 shots. Dayton incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
