Jonathan Ornelas netted the deciding goal for the Dayton Gems in the shootout as Gems prevailed over the Arizona Sundogs, 3-2 (3-2 SO).The shootout lasted for 16 attempts between the teams. Arizona got shootout goals from Kyle Hood and Olivier Proulx. Dayton's other shootout goals were scored by Tim Hartung and David Nimmo.
The Gems were sparked by Nick Fanto, who finished with one goal and one assist. Fanto scored on the power play 19:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dayton. Dayton had gotten the advantage when the Sundogs' Proulx was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Greg Labenski picked up the assist.
